Quality Control Charts
Definition
Charts that display performance appraisal data between different types of accounts. The charts may be used to show the performance difference between an actively managed account and the benchmark.
Using the term Quality Control Charts :
Mr. Bean showed his client the quality control chart of the client's account as compared to the benchmark they selected. The quality control chart showed the client's account handily outperforming its benchmark.
Pay Special Attention To :
Ensure that you are getting an apples to apples comparison, i.e. that the benchmark is properly specified -- essentially meaning that it is an appropriate comparison to your portfolio. Treasury bills are likely NOT an appropriate benchmark to emerging markets equities for example.
