Definition
This is research dedicated to finding ways to capture excess risk-adjusted returns in a particular strategy. Also, some investment firms organize their research departments into alpha research and beta research areas.
Using the term Alpha Research :
A believer in alpha and best separation, the portfolio manager named Jimmy James has two of his three analysts work on alpha research while his other analyst works on allocating to beta strategies.
Pay Special Attention To :
Alpha research takes a lot of time and may require the ability to make short sale calls as well.
